Jessica, you're absolutely right, as was Vonnegut (who was about just plain brilliant.) Here is proof, I think:

Last year I started following a self-help guru with the inital aim of helping me become wealthier and more "successful." Part of his training course involves joining a group which meets every week on Zoom to discuss our personal wins and evolution.

Today we discussed the changes we've seen in ourselves in the past years since we've joined the group, and the conversation was really interesting. Business, money, etc., came up only peripherally.. Everyone talked instead mainly about the positive effects that the course has had on their relationships with spouses, families and friends, their commitments toward their respective communities, their desires to reach out and help others, the way they feel about themselves, and so forth.

In other words, as you've suggested, everyone in the group has gotten better at loving ourselves and each other. That's what's really important. The other stuff is just window dressing.
